Your Responsibilities

  • Perform Diverse Handyman Jobs: Complete a wide range of small-to-medium maintenance and repair projects for both homes and businesses – including carpentry, drywall, tile, flooring, painting, doors, windows, decks, and light remodeling. Manage each project independently from start to finish, ensuring high-quality results.
  • Customer Service & Communication: Communicate clearly with customers to understand their needs, explain work recommendations, and manage expectations about project scope, costs, and timelines. Deliver a great customer experience that wows every client and turns them into life-long customers, following the proven Mr. Handyman Way to get the job done right.
  • Quality Workmanship: Perform all repairs and improvements with an eye for detail and craftsmanship. We stand behind our work with a one-year Done Right Promise, so jobs must be done correctly the first time. If an issue arises, we make it right promptly.
  • Job Documentation: Use a company-provided tablet to document each job – take before-and-after photos, write up notes, and process invoices/payment upon completion. Ensure all work orders and customer approvals are properly recorded.
  • Maintain Equipment & Safety: Keep the company vehicle and your tools/equipment clean, organized, and in good working condition. Follow all safety protocols on job sites, including wearing proper PPE and boot covers to protect our customers’ homes. Safely handle ladders (up to 32’) and work on roofs or elevated areas when necessary.
  • Professionalism: Represent Mr. Handyman with integrity and courtesy at all times. This includes arriving on time in uniform, maintaining a clean work area, and respecting the customer’s property. Communicate with the office team as needed for support, additional materials, or schedule changes.

Job Requirements

  • Experience: 10+ years of paid experience in construction, carpentry, remodeling, or general home repair is required. As a multi-skilled craftsman, you should be proficient in several trades – ideally at least 3 of the following: carpentry, drywall installation/repair, painting, floor installation, basic plumbing, basic electrical, tiling, and other home improvement skills.
  • Customer Focus: Excellent communication and customer service skills are a must. You should feel comfortable interacting with homeowners and commercial clients, explaining our services, and ensuring customer satisfaction on every job.
  • Licenses & Screening: Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record is required (insurable to drive our company van). Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening prior to employment.
  • Tools & Tech: Possess a set of professional-grade hand and power tools suitable for a variety of jobs. (We provide any large specialty tools as needed.) Be comfortable using an iPad or tablet for scheduling, communication, and documentation.
  • Physical Ability: Capable of lifting 50 lbs independently and handling a 32’ extension ladder safely. Able to work on roofs or in attics, and perform tasks that require standing, kneeling, or working overhead for extended periods.
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required. Additional vocational training or trade certifications (carpentry, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.) are a plus and should be noted in your application.
  • Location: Live within reasonable driving distance of our service area (Louisville, KY and surrounding communities). Knowledge of the local area is beneficial for efficient travel between job sites.
  • Professionalism: Positive attitude, reliability, and the ability to self-manage on the job. You will often work independently at job sites, so we need trustworthy team members who take initiative and pride in their work.
