Your Responsibilities as a Handyman/Service Professional
- Look and carry yourself with the utmost professionalism.
- Completing Scheduled Jobs - Project lengths can range from one hour to several days.
- Making Recommendations and Managing Expectations with Customers - You’ll communicate directly with customers ensuring the job will be meet or exceed their expectations. As the home services expert, you will help them understand the scope of work and any costs associated with it.

How We’ll Measure Performance
Here are some of the ways that we’ll measure your performance in the role.
- Customer Satisfaction. For every job, you will encourage customers to leave a Google review.
- Revenue Target - Our office gets you in the door and it’s your job to stay there and find additional ways to be of service to the customer.
- Effective Billing Rate - It’s your responsibility to estimate and invoice appropriately, source any needed materials, and collect payment from the customer.
- Low Recall Percentage - We warranty all our work for one year. The work needs to be done correctly, the first time.
To Succeed in this Role
- You’ll need to self-manage as you’ll be alone often.
- You’ll need to be accurate with estimates. Your experience will shine here as you’ll be able to maximize your earning potential with accurate scheduling estimates.
- You'll need to plan. You'll see your upcoming schedule for the week so you should be able to plan how you'll approach each job--time, materials, etc.
- You’ll need to speak with customers and provide excellent customer service while asking for reviews and collecting payments.
- You’ll need to have the necessary tools, including the ability to use technology. How you build estimates, invoice the customer and collect payment is all performed on your iPad.
- You'll need to document the job while following our process, the Mr. Handyman Way. You'll take before, during and after pictures of all your work.
Job Requirements
These are the minimum requirements to be considered for this position.
- Live within the area. Within a 20-mile radius of downtown San Antonio.
- Have 8+ years of experience as a handyman. Preferred but not mandatory.
- Own your own tools.
- Be insurable for driving our vehicle. No DUI/DWI within the last 7 years.
- Complete a criminal background check. No felonies within the last 7 years.
- Able to lift ~50 pounds.
- Able to safely work at heights for extended periods of time.
- Professional appearance and good hygiene.
As an experienced Handyman, you have strong proficiency in at least three (3) of the following:
- Carpentry/woodwork
- Bathroom improvements/remodels
- Kitchen improvements/remodels
- Painting, interior and exterior
- Drywall and texturing repairs
- General plumbing and electrical (nothing requiring a master’s license)
- Floor installation and repair
- Door and window repair
Benefits & Pay
After a probationary period of the first 90 days, you will be eligible for a flexible work schedule with paid time off and paid holidays. Additionally, after one year of employment, you will be eligible for a 401k retirement plan.
This position is paid by commission (after reaching 25 billable hours). However, during the probationary period of the first 90 days, we can guarantee 30 hours weekly at $25 per hour. The more billable hours above 25 you have (e.g. tiers of 30, 35, 40), the higher your commission percentage. After the probationary period, pay is strictly commission-based.
