Your Responsibilities as a Handyman/Service Professional
- Look and carry yourself with the utmost professionalism. You will be provided a uniform and everything you'd need to do your best.
- Completing Maintenance & Repairs - You’ll be completing small to medium maintenance and repairs for home and commercial projects. The project length can range from two hours to two days.
- Making Recommendations and Managing Expectations with Customers - You’ll communicate directly with customers ensuring the job will be meet or exceed their expectations. As the expert, you will help them understand what they need to have done and manage expectations about the scope of work and costs.
- Create Life-Long Customers - Deliver a great experience that creates life-long, repeat customers. You will follow the Mr. Handyman Way - a repeatable process that makes it easy to 'wow' the customer every time.
How We’ll Measure Performance
Here are some of the ways that we’ll measure your performance in the role.
- Customer Satisfaction (NPS) - For every job, you will encourage customers to complete a survey for them to rate their satisfaction with the service. You’ll need both a high response rate and high satisfaction rate.
- Revenue Target - Our office gets you in the door and it’s your job to stay there and find additional ways to be of service to the customer.
- Effective Billing Rate - It’s your responsibility to invoice appropriately, source any needed materials, and collect payment from the customer.
- Recall Percentage - We guarantee all our work for one year. The work needs to be done correctly, the first time.
To Succeed in this Role
- You’ll need to self-manage as you’ll be alone often.
- You'll need to plan ahead. You'll see your upcoming schedule for the week so you should be able to map out how you'll approach each job--time, materials, etc.
- You’ll need to speak with customers and provide excellent customer service while asking for reviews and collecting payments.
- You’ll need to have the necessary tools, including the ability to use technology. How you build estimates, invoice the customer and collect payment is all performed on your iPad.
- You'll need to document the job while following our process, the Mr. Handyman Way. You'll take before, during and after pictures of all your work.
- You’ll need to wear proper PPE as well as provided booties to protect our customer’s home.
Job Requirements
These are the minimum requirements to be considered for this position.
- Live within the area. If you live more than 30 minutes from downtown San Antonio, this may not be the job for you.
- Have 8+ years’ experience as a handyman. Paid handyman experience is a huge plus but not mandatory.
- Own your own tools. Nobody takes better care of the tools they own.
- Be insurable for driving our vehicle. A good clean driving record is critical.
- Complete a criminal background and driving record check. We've all made mistakes in the past so your transparency is the best policy.
- Able to lift 50 pounds independently. Ladders can be heavy and you'll be working along most of the time.
- Able to safely work at heights and work overheard for extended periods of time.
- Professional appearance, good hygiene and maintenance of company-provided vehicle a must!
As an experienced Handyman, you have strong proficiency in at least three (3) of the following:
- Carpentry work
- Bathroom improvements
- Kitchen improvements
- Painting, both inside and out
- Drywall work, minor and major repairs
- General plumbing and electrical, where allowed by law
- Floor installation and refurbishing
- Familiar with building codes
Benefits & Pay
The pay for this position starts at $25 and can be as high as $31 per hour. We can even guarantee you a minimum of 30 clocked hours per week. After you complete 25 billable hours for the week, your pay transitions to a commission. The more billable hours above 25 you have (e.g. 30, 35, 40), the higher your commission percentage. Commission will always pay more than the hourly rate.
